Short answer

In 1.02, open settings → Game and turn off “Zoom for Dialogue”. Eastshade Studios gives this exact tab and option name in its reply to the camera discussion.

Disable zoom when talking to characters

  1. Install version 1.02 or later. The option was added in 1.02. An older build will not have it.
  2. Open settings and select Game.Find Zoom for Dialogue and switch it off.
  3. Check a conversation. The setting disables the custom conversation camera. It is not a lock for every camera change.

A speaker may remain off-screen. The official 1.02 notes warn about this because scenes were designed around those cameras. Keeping voice-over enabled can help you follow an off-screen speaker.

If you prefer the original framing, turn the same option back on.

Why does zoom still change outside dialogue?

The developer distinguishes conversations from first-time room entry and outdoor camera zones. Their earlier reply says a room initially opens zoomed out; after adjustment, that room should remember its zoom, including across saves.

A later player still reports zoom changes when closing a chest, leaving the dorm and entering the courtyard. The developer explicitly says the new toggle does not cover every camera issue. Report the location and triggering action if those are your symptoms; do not assume the toggle failed because an unrelated camera movement remains.
